This fun and simple layout with neutral color scheme and Mackinac Island made from torn paper is the perfect place to feature your Arch Rock and/or nature inspired photos from Mackinac Island.  This is the third set in our Mackinac Island Scrapbook series and offers a much more subtle look that focuses on Mackinac Island’s natural beauty rather then the quaint charm of Main Street. Please excuse our picture quality! EEEK! We are crafters not photographers 🙂

OK, LET’S GET STARTED SHALL WE?!!!

 PAGE ONE:

Adhere the 2″ x 12″ piece of brown paper on the top of the 12″ x 12″ green paper.  Adhere the 1/2″ x 12″ piece of turquoise paper over the seam where the brown and green papers meet.  Adhere the 9″ square piece of turquoise paper 1/2″ up from the bottom of the page centering it from the sides.

How to tear paper for scrapbook pages

I thought it would be fun to showcase Mackinac Island’s charming view from afar by creating one with some great torn layers of paper…

So to get started just tear half of the length off of the brown 1″ x 9″ piece, the brown 1″ x 7″ piece, the olive 1″ x 5″ piece, and the 3″ x 1″ piece.  Slightly tear the ends off of each peace so that you don’t have any straight edges.

I love the silhouette of Mackinac Island.  You can see some of the dramatic heights and distinct “layers”.  Can you see it resembling the silhouette a turtle? 🙂

how to tear paper to look like mackinac island

Adhere the longest piece of torn brown paper to the bottom of the turquoise square being careful not to add adhesive to the top of the strip so that the next layer can easily slide under it.  Layer the next strip of torn brown paper slightly under the first brown layer lining it up on the left side.  Layer the torn olive strip slightly under the 2nd brown strip lining up the right side.  Lastly adhere the small torn green strip slightly under the olive strip in the middle.  Now that’s a fun original design element!

To finish page one of our  Legend of Mackinac Island scrapbook layout, adhere the 4 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ piece of black paper approximately 2 1/4 up from the bottom and 1″ from the left side of the paper.  Adhere the 4″ square black piece approximately 2 1/4″ up from the bottom and 1″ from the right side of the paper.

Cut the 2″ brown square in half corner to corner to create two triangles and then adhere ( I used dimensional tape) to the top left corner of each black mats approximately 1/4″ above the top edge and 1/4″ to beyond the left edge.

Arrange the fun Mackinac Island with turtle finish die cut 🙂 approximately 3″ from the right edge and then top with The Legend of Mackinac Island die cut.

Add the round Mackinac Michigan die cut and then add the tall skinny trees to the bottom outside edges of the black mats and then top with the larger tree die cuts overlapping the skinnier trees and black mats to add some dimension to the page.

Poke 3 holes approximately 1/4″ apart  on the left side of the skinny turquoise strip and add some small round silver brads.

AND NOW TO COMPLETE PAGE 2

Cut out the 11 die cuts used in page above.

Adhere the 2″ x 12″ piece of green paper on the top of the 12″ x 12″ brown paper.  Adhere the 1/2″ x 12″ piece of turquoise paper over the seam where the brown and green papers meet.  Sit this page next to page 1 to make sure your turquoise strips line up in the middle. 🙂

How to tear paper

Tear off one of the short end of the 4 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ turquoise piece of paper.  Adhere the 2″ x 4 1/2″ piece of olive paper to the torn end the turquoise piece.  Then tear approximately 1/2 off the olive piece.  Repeat these steps with the 4 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ olive piece and the 2″ x 4 1/2″ turquoise piece.  Adhere these mats to the left side of the page approximately 1/4″ from the left edge and 1/4″ from the bottom and the turquoise strip at the top.  Adhere the 4″ square black piece to the right side approximately 1/2″ from the skinny turquoise strip and 1/2″ from the right edge.

OPTIONAL:  Adhere the 4″ x 6″ black mats to the olive and dark green mats or just add photos.

Cut the 2″ olive square piece in half corner to corner and adhere to the top two mats.  I used dimensional tape and placed them slightly beyond the edges of the mats.

To finish it up just add three small silver brads on the top right of the skinny turquoise strip like you did on page one.  Then add all your pine tree die cuts overlapping them a bit.  Finish up by adding a die cut to the corner piece on the right side and then  overlap a few die cuts on the bottom right corner of the page.

Lastly we added the Arch Rock die cut from the pine tree bonus page to top off our Legend of Mackinac Island Scrapbook layout!

VOILA!  YOU ARE DONE!
